Examination section

Semester system is being followed at KIU. The main objective of this system is to test the curriculum throughout the semester. The academic year is divided into Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. The lessons are delivered and tested at short intervals and the method of testing can vary from small quizzes to presentations, reports, even take home assignments. Midterm and final exams are designed to judge the level of understanding and assimilating the subject matter. These objectives can only be achieved if the students are regular and systematic in learning and testing.

Credit Hours

  • Teaching in semester system is based on credit hours. A credit hour means teaching theory courses for 50-60 minutes each week throughout the semester. One credit hour in laboratory practical work / Project would require at least two hours per week. The credit hours are denoted by two digits.
  • Thus 4(3-1) means a total of four credit hours, of which three credit hours of theory with one credit hour of practical. Letter grading is used for the individual courses (A,B,C)
  • Semester Grade Point Average (GPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) are reported by numbers (maximum 4)

Attendance

A student must attend at least 70% of the classes held in order to sit in the final Examinations. There is no supplementary examination in the semester system. If a student fails, he is required to repeat the course whenever it is offered again. If a student is unable to pass a course after the third attempt, he/she shall be dropped out from the University and cannot be readmitted in the same course. If a student fails to attend any lecture during the first four weeks, his admission shall stand canceled without any notice

  • GPA: Grade Point Average
  • CGPA: Cumulative Grade Point Average
